Particle board, multi-layer board, European pine board, density board, solid wood board, just the name can confuse people. Particle board is currently the most commonly used substrate for customized home furnishings, not because it is the best, but because it has the highest cost-effectiveness. Good stability, not easily deformed, strong processing performance, suitable for making cabinets and door panels for wardrobes and cabinets. But its weakness is that it has average moisture resistance and moderate nail grip, making it unsuitable for use in high humidity environments such as kitchen sinks, cabinets, and bathrooms.

The advantages of multi-layer boards are strong nail grip and good moisture resistance, making them suitable for use in cabinet bodies, bathroom cabinets, balcony cabinets, and other locations that require load-bearing and moisture resistance. But multi-layer boards are prone to deformation, especially in dry areas in the north, and are prone to cracking when there is a large temperature difference. So multi-layer boards are not omnipotent, they need to be used in the right place.

Ousong board has been very popular in recent years. Essentially, it is an oriented structure particle board with high strength, good stability, and good environmental performance. Suitable for making cabinets and even door panels, especially for load-bearing shelves and bookshelves. However, the surface flatness of Ousong board is not as good as that of particle board, and higher process requirements are required for finishing, so there are relatively few finished products of pure Ousong board on the market.

MDF has the smoothest surface and is suitable for making decorative door panels, such as European and French carved door panels, which are mostly made of MDF. But the moisture resistance of the density board is the worst, it swells when it comes into contact with water, and it is basically useless when used in kitchens and bathrooms. So density boards are only suitable for decorative door panels in dry spaces.

Solid wood panels are indeed environmentally friendly and have good texture, but they are expensive, prone to cracking and deformation, and have strict environmental requirements. If you don't have a sufficient budget and professional maintenance conditions, solid wood panels are not the optimal solution for customized home furnishings.
