Many people believe that the lifespan of the board depends on its quality. Is ENF grade board necessarily more durable than E0 grade? Are imported boards necessarily more durable than domestically produced boards?
It's not true. The lifespan of the board is 70% determined by the areas you cannot see.
The first place that cannot be seen: hardware.
Hinges, slides, handles, and connectors - these are the components that the cabinet is subjected to every day. No matter how good the board is, the hinge will loosen after two years of use, and the door panel will still sag and not close tightly. Many people spend a lot of money choosing boards, but save money on hardware, which is putting the cart before the horse. Good hardware can keep cabinets used for five to ten more years, while poor hardware can be scrapped in two years.
The second unseen place: installation.
The same piece of board can have vastly different effects when assembled by different craftsmen. Whether the screws are tightened or not, whether the partitions are leveled or not, whether the closing is tight or not, and whether the expansion joints are left or not - these details directly determine whether the cabinet will deform, crack, or mold. The skill of the installation master is much more important than the brand of the board.
The third unseen aspect is usage habits.
Buying a cabinet is not enough. Kitchen cabinets exposed to oil fumes for a long time will turn yellow and sticky on the surface; The bathroom cabinet is not ventilated, and even the best moisture-proof board cannot withstand it; The wardrobe is too full of clothes, and if the shelves are overloaded for a long time, they will bend. The lifespan of the board is half bought and half used.
So, instead of worrying about the brand and grade of the board, it's better to focus on three things: choosing the right hardware, paying close attention to installation, and using it reasonably. Board is just the skeleton, hardware is the joints, installation is surgery, and use is maintenance. If any link falls off, even the most expensive board will be in vain.
